As part of the Operations team, the Development Associate's primary responsibility is to implement and manage a comprehensive stewardship program designed to foster and nurture long-term, meaningful relationships between AFSC and its donors. The Development Associate will collaborate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders including program staff, donors, development officers, and others, in reporting back to donors on the activity supported by their campaign, planned, major, and annual gifts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • In collaboration with Development leadership, Communications staff, consultants, and vendors develop and maintain effective stewardship letters, forms, receipts, and reports for both online and offline platforms.
  • Process all in-house donor receipts and acknowledgements in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Write personal acknowledgment and stewardship letters for signature by Senior Leadership staff. Assist the General Secretary with weekly stewardship of major donors and campaign tasks.
  • Attend biweekly Campaign strategy meetings and attend and take minutes at the Stewardship Committee meeting.
  • Create annual stewardship reports highlighting the work of endowed programs, interns, and fellows.
  • Assist with fundraising activities and stewardship of AFSC’s $1,000+ high touch giving circle.
  • Develop and maintain a stewardship resource center on AFSC’s intranet.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of stewardship though the ongoing reporting of stewardship activity.
  • Serve as the lead on the Annual Receipt Process, creating and sending receipts, and serving as project manager
  • Maintain, and update a Development Stewardship Procedures Manual. Make reports and recommendations for improvements or adjustments to procedures. Collaborate with operations director to improve receipt and acknowledgement processing so that sound donor relations are maintained or when possible improved.
  • Interact with donors as a responder to the AFSC toll free phone line: answering questions, accepting gifts, directing to appropriate sources of information.
  • Act as a backup for the Development Associate charged with receiving and depositing income.
  • Serve as a communicator on the Donor Services email, responding to donor questions and requests.
  • Maintain inventory of the department’s letterhead supply, as well as printed materials such as notecards for the Advancement team
  • Support the Operations Unit with duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience with a stewardship program in the non- profit fundraising field required.
  • Keen understanding of the philanthropic sector and familiarity with donor centered fundraising practices.
  • Proven writing skills and experience writing and editing professional fundraising documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to successfully interact with a variety of people on different levels, and comfort with speaking and presenting in a group setting.
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to prioritize a multi-faceted workload under strict deadlines, sometimes with limited guidance.
  • Flexibility, patience, and the ability to work productively in a team environment and independently, and the willingness to meet unexpected demands with a positive attitude.
  • Attentiveness to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with confidential information.
  • Excellent computer skills with fundraising software preferably Salesforce and
  • MS Office (Word, Outlook and Excel, in particular).
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and to travel, as required.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.

  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.

COMPENSATION

The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package.  This position is Exempt.  Salary Family: Development Job Code Development Associate.  Salary Family Range $53,922-$72,747.
