The work of a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) I initially entails work of a simple or routine nature. As experience is gained, more difficult tasks are assigned. Work products are reviewed in progress and upon completion by a higher level attorney. A Deputy Attorney General (DAG) II works with more independence, with a periodic review by a more senior attorney. DAG IIs provide varied legal services and advice on matters of moderate scope and complexity including: noncomplex litigation with minimal supervision, appearing in lower courts without a senior attorney, and assisting more senior attorneys on matters deemed more complex and difficult. A Deputy Attorney General (DAG) III works independently on most matters, performing advanced legal work on cases of increased complexity. DAG III assignments involve the entire spectrum of the legal process from legal analysis and enforcement actions to pre-trial and trial preparation, extensive motions practice, and related court appearances. A Deputy Attorney General (DAG) IV performs advanced legal work with significant autonomy and minimal supervision, often on highly complex cases.
